ShinyArt artist selected for Prague Art Festival

This is an official shout out for Paulo R.C. Barros whose video artwork Recycle was screened this past weekend at the 23rd Festival Les Instants Vidéo in Prague. Congratulations Paulo!!

If you have not yet had the opportunity to view Paulo’s ShinyArt video – do take a look. Can video art be visually jarring  and psychologically trance-inducing at the same time? You be the judge. The audio is also unlike anything else on the site – again, it’s very confrontational, yet paradoxically attractive.

Les Instants is a video art and multimedia festival that cultivates “electronic poets” – a term I have not hear before, but I think it is starting to grow on me (comme ci, comme ça) ! The Marseilles-based Festival is an intriguing array of international video art installations, performances, video art screenings and discussions, and encounters with established filmmakers, curators, and educators.

For one year (!), the Festival is traveling around the world (mainly Europe), with individually curated exhibitions occurring in each city. Paulo’s work was shown as part of the Prague presentation which combined Les Instants Vidéo with the 1st Anemic (?) Festival of Prague.

Finally, I have to close with this quote from the Les Instants website which has undoubtably lost something (like sense) in the translation, but still manages to convey the über seriousness of the whole endeavor: “Admission is free because we deem Art as priceless…because our compensation is your thoughtful, giggling and breathing acts of heedful speech.”

As always, wishing you many “breathing acts of heedful speech” as you look at art today.
