A looooong weekend

My house has all the accoutrements of an exhaustively long weekend and an overwhelming amount of work to be done: piles of laundry compete with unanswered emails, gritty floors try to one-up my blog post obligations…and they nearly win.

Did take some good calls today in between the madness. One of them was ShinyArt related with artist/independent curator and arts administrator Lucy Kalyani Lin who was able to shed some important light on some Bay Area artist networks. Sometimes it’s difficult to see the forest for the TREES…..y’know?

Among many things, she did make me aware of this local grant opportunity which may not exactly be relevant for SA – but I like knowing that these pared down grants exist specifically for art initiatives and projects that may operate outside of the normal channels of the market. So yeah for Alternative Exposure!

The other call was about a lecture series for the Art Museum of Los Gatos – who knew about that? I am all for educating the public about art in any capacity…following the Grace Morley model who single-handedly nurtured a taste for art in the Bay Area with pain-staking educational programs and a rigourous schedule of exhibitions. But that, as they say, is another story.
